Vision​

The Drama Department endeavours to ignite passions and cultivate creativity. The curriculum is designed to engage and grip the interest of students and lessons are taught by subject specialists who love their subject and strive for students to develop a passion for Drama and Theatre.

The Curriculum

Curriculum Description:

In year 7, 8 and 9 students experience Drama once a fortnight and work practically on building their theatrical skills as well as knowledge of theatre, communication, confidence, and teamwork.


Year 7 look at drama through the ages studying Greek Theatre, Melodrama and Stanislavski’s Acting Techniques.

Year 8 focus moves to developing these skills through pantomime, physical theatre and mask.

Year 9 focus on the play DNA by Dennis Kelly, Brecht’s Epic Theatre and live theatre review. 


At KS4 students study the GCSE Drama course by AQA.

The subject content for GCSE Drama is divided into three components: 

​

Component 1 - Understanding Drama – 40% Exam
Study of Blood Brothers, Live Theatre Review, Theatrical Theory – stage types and positions

​

Component 2 - Devising Drama – 40% Practical
Performance of a devised piece of drama rehearsed in groups. Recorded in the classroom

​

Component 3 – Theatre Texts in Practice – 20% Practical
Performance of two extracts from a play you choose in a group of your choice. Performed to an examiner
